[NB. Thank you all for the suggestions. I believe I've found my replacement rosary.]
Snagged my habit rosary on my desk and broke the cord! It's reparable and being repaired, but a backup rosary would be prudent. . .

Anyone know where (online) I can get a 20 decade corded olive wood rosary?
I've seen places where custom made rosaries are available, but they're too expensive ($120 +).
Any suggestions?

ReplyDeleteOne of the St. Dominic's parishioners makes exquisite custom rosaries. Fr. O'Rourke knows the guy. If you have the olive wood beads you would like to use I'm sure he would make a 20-decade rosary for you at no cost.
DeleteThere is a seminarian I know who is making those to raise funds for a pilgrimage. I'll point him to your blog.
ReplyDeleteSure do. Br. Vito makes them. Two years ago he charged me $ 60. This is a long habit Rosary. I blogged about it. http://theonetruefaith-faith.blogspot.com/2010/05/my-franican-rosary.html If you follow the links on my blog, you'll find him. Tell me if you can't access anything. I think I can find him. I'm pretty sure he's on FB. He got busy and didn't keep up with posting, so I stopped following him. But he shouldn't be hard to find.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Ed Audler, I'm a Seminarian for New Orleans. I'm going on a trip to the Abbey of Christ in the Desert, So I'm looking to sell a few 20 decade rosaries for $50 each to help pay for the trip. I can make one out of twine or twine and wooden beads. My pastor is a Dominican priest named Fr John Rrstrepo OP and I made one of his habbit rosaries. if you are interested, my email address is eddaud400@gmail.com or eaudler@sjasc.edu.
ReplyDeleteIf you are good your sisters will make you one..but 20 decades? Wild offshoots! A DOMINICAN rosary is 15!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, consider it done!
Thanks so much! Define "good." Hehehe. Sorry, a little Dominican friar humor! 15 decades would be fine. . .I like a long rosary b/c I'm tall. Oh, and the Luminous Mysteries and all that. . .

The Dominican habit Rosary has fifteen decades. Another Dominican
ReplyDeleteYes. I know.
ReplyDeleteDon't know how you're progressing about getting another Rosary, but here is Brother Vito's Habit Making Blog http://habitrosary.wordpress.com/2010/12/31/blog-updating/ You'll have to contact him to give specifics.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen Father Scott Steinkercher's (sp?). His was made by a nephew or niece. So it looks like something one would make at summer camp, i.e., out of gimp, beads, string, etc. The cross is a watchband.
Then there's Father Timothy Radcliffe's. It's a traditional Dominican Rosary, except for the fact that it's entirely made out of cord. (Maybe that's his travel Rosary?) Actually, rosaries made out of cord are my favorite. You can wash them in the washing machine. They're very quiet (Friars can sneak up on people.) And they're inexpensive.
Give us an update.
Faith, the Good Nuns of Summit, NJ are making one for me. I like the corded rosaries too, but for my habit I need something more substantial.
Deletewhere can I find a 20 decade corded wooden rosary?
