Three thoughts on the Papal Election

Just saw this from Youtube. . .three thoughts:

1). The Protodeacon making the announcement needs to work on his timing/drama skills. He just blurted out the news!

2). Why wasn't the Holy Father wearing his papal stole?

3). Our Holy Father is a bit on the chunky side. . .Yea!

  1. Cardinal Tauran has Parkinsons, I think he can be forgiven a little issue with his timing.

    1. I didn't know! Yikes. Now I feel bad. I thought he was just inexperienced or overwhelmed.

  2. ‎"lo que más añora de su infancia es 'el chocolate con churros que hacía mi mamá'"

What I most miss from my youth is the churros with chocolate my mother used to make me" - explains the chubbiness....

  3. You know, I was wondering about the stole as well.

  4. Well I am not a big fan of his liturgical sensibilities. But he never referred to himself as the Pope but the Bishop of Rome. So he may try to present the Pope as the 'first among equals."

    1. Because the way the Popes have been running the Church has been the picture of success? Maybe if guys like Dolan, Burke and Dolan did not have to look at Rome in order to punish fellow bishops then we could be rid of the Mahoney problem.

    2. True. . .but then neither would Mahony, Gumbleton, et al need Rome's permission to punish bishops like Olmstead, Chaput, etc.

  5. He wore the Papal Stole when he formally blessed the people. The motto on his Cardinal Coat of Arms means "lowly, yet chosen". Nice.
