To me this means one thing: the U.S. has reached a tipping point in her decline toward irreversible Nanny Statism and the social disease of government dependency. A Romney victory last night would have only stalled the decline.
Batten down, faithful Catholics! It's going to be a long four years.

"O ye of little faith," watch how God's design unfolds. Trust in the Lord.
ReplyDeleteFaith, my faith in God is absolute. It's the American voters that scare me. :-)
DeleteThe cynical part of my brain keeps thinking that in 40 years we'll be calling Cardinal George a prophet.
ReplyDeleteThe cynical part, or the realist part?
DeletePerhaps we now find out who is really in the Church and who is just playing Church.
DeleteWhat did Cardinal George say?

By play to the left for decades with its "social doctrine", sex only excepted, the US Catholic church shares responsibility for helping this country commit suicide.
DeleteIn 2012 Cardinal George said "I expect to die in bed, my successor will die in prison and his successor will die a martyr in the public square. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the Church has done so often in human history." He has confirmed that this is an accurate quote.
DeleteThe silver lining is that persecution of the Church will get in second gear in this country, though with Romney it would just pause for a double-clutch, and thus she will grow holier. How will the Lord call me to witness Him?...
ReplyDeleteI think, as your other post says, there needs to be a change of heart before there will be a change of the country. For example, a sudden law prohibiting all abortion would not change the hearts of people. They'd go to Canada or underground doctors. For our country to be pro-life, the change needs to come from within. We need to preach the value of life. Likewise, the Christian aspects of our America culture cannot be saved by a single vote. Even my 19 year old son placed on his facebook page that if you want to save America, belief in God and talk about him with friends and acquaintances in public and in private. God needs to be brought back to the conversation, back into our consciousness - not like a sledge hammer, but as the mortar to strengthen and rebuild the foundation!
ReplyDeleteI agree totally that conversion begins with self inner-conversion. However, carrying on in this line as some of these posts are doing this sounds like Pollyanna. Why in the world do we go to so much trouble in electing a leader if we didn't believe that leading means wielding immense power to influence! It's true, the best leader in the world probably can't cure us of all of our sins if we don't each start within ourselves. But the better the leader, the greater the influence toward good - and I suspect all of this belongs on some kind of a sliding scale anyway. So look inwardly, but at the same time, do whatever you can to limit the man in the White House's ability continue to lead us into perdition. I do not exonerate Obama by claiming that the fault is within each of us. By the way, I hope it's clear to everyone that with this election, the American Project is over! "Certando Sacerdos"
