Coffee Cup Browsing (Terrorism Edition)

When the IRA was terrorizing London, I never once thought: "All Catholics must be terrorists."

But I'm not ready to sign on to the Catholic League position either. . .

Nor do I trust the Left's hysterical attempt to hide that fact that the Paris terrorists preached their version of Islam while killing innocents.

But I will agree that Islam -- in its many versions -- is fundamentally incompatible with western liberal democracy.

Keeping in mind that our Media Betters have no problem whatsoever repeatedly lying about, offending, and attacking Christians (and the Church in particular) all the while twisting themselves into pretzels to avoid offending Muslims.

In other Culture War news: Miami's archbishop requires employees of the archdiocese to keep quiet about their support for same-sex "marriage."

I'm often torn, if christians were tearing out people's eyes and cutting off people's hands saying, "the master said its better this than hell," I would be quick to say they are perverting scriptures because ultimately Jesus did not do it himself. But in the case of Islam can they look at the Koran passages and say the same? "What would Mohommed do?" Could be a terrifying slogan.

  2. I find it hard to reconcile the beliefs (and behavior!) of the violent people with the Moslems I work with every day. They must be from a different planet or something.

    1. I agree. The Muslims I've known and worked with wouldn't condone this behavior. However, we're not hearing much from the sane Muslim world that disabuses the West of the stereotype.

    2. Maybe they are afraid to. Afraid too. (two different to(o)s)
They come here to get away from that stuff and now it has followed them here.
I work with several people who moved here with their parents when the Shah was deposed. None of them are religious at all any more. One of them tells me, "No, no, I want nutting to do wit it."

Make no mistake, Islam is suffering from the secularist plague as much as the West is. The profile of Muslims, devout and cultural ones alike, mirrors that of Catholics pretty similarly (v. http://www.pewforum.org/?p=7062 ). Though radical Islam and the general silence by mainstream Islam might suggest a strong faith, it's faltering as much the Christian faith in secularist cultures.

    4. In the case of the Moslems I know it isn't the fault of secularism, it is a rejection of religion because of what Islam has done to them and their countries and people. It's like people who leave the Church because of being abused by priests.

  3. I would take the dailycaller with several tons of salt. I have had to take so much salt with everything these days I am getting all shriveled up. Help.

    1. I generally take DC with a big grain of salt too, but other outlets have noted the change and documented it. It's not hard to do with screenshots.

Perhaps you never thought that all Catholics were terrorists, but the secularists are gloating again about how religion not only must not be taken seriously, it cannot even be taken lightly and deserves to be extirpated from civil society.

The Patheos blog link pulls a fast one by insisting on the “Freedom Fighters” of Afghanistan (a.k.a. the Taliban) line when it is relatively well known by now that the historical truth is (as usual) more subtle (see HERE and HERE.
