Coffee Bowl Browsing

The problem of evil as presented on a few popular TV shows.  Confession:  I'm a big fan of all things vampirish in the movies and on TV.  The Good vs. Evil plot lines resonant with my Catholic soul!

And speaking of evil. . .there are only six Catholic priests in the U.S. who perform exorcisms?

Handy summary and outline of the VC2 document, Gaudium et spes (Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World).

The VFW fires its PAC board after the board endorsed Pelosi, Reed, and Boxer.

Hypocrisy Alert:  Dems take twice as much foreign money as the GOP.  Of course, the Dem's hypocrisy here doesn't absolve the GOP.

CA firefighters who were forced to participate in a "gay pride" parade win their harassment case on appeal.  The decision of the appeals panel was unanimous.

If this doesn't make you laugh. . .well, check your pulse.

Peace in our time!

A new terrorist threat:  Al-Gebra.  Bomb those @#$% back to the Roman numeral days!

  1. I have read many times that Church law requires each diocese to have an assigned exorcist. Is this not still the case or is it being ignored?

  3. I call BS on the Protestant Minister saying there are only about six Catholics exorcists in the U.S.. Maybe only six that belong to his organization.

If anything the number is growing as more and more diocese are sending priest to training. One example is the book The Rite which explores the story of one Catholic priest sent by his diocese in California to Rome for training. I can think of a couple of exorcists in America right off the top of my head and I certainly don't have extensive knowledge regarding all diocese.

  4. Matt, mostly ignoring it, I think.

Armando, mille grazie! Please, let me know what you think.

Jeff, yea, that number didn't sound right to me either.

In the San Diego firefighter case, did you catch the city's attempt at defense?

In its appeal, the city argued that 'the offensive parade conduct… occurred only intermittently over the course of three hours' and that the firefighters were only 'subjected to what can fairly be described as simple teasing, offhand comments, and extremely isolated incidents of partial nudity or lewd behavior'"

?!? how many incidents of partial nudity or lewd behavior does one need before calling the cops?

In any case, it looks like the good guys won. Faith in judicial system +1
