O.P. friar gets owned

From the combox on my post about B.O. bowing to the Japanese emperor:

"However, with all due respect, I don't think you need to resort to using phrases such as 'pie-hole' to get your point across. You are too much of a gifted and talented writer for that!"

THIS, folks, is how you shame a big-mouthed Dominican into being more polite!

My only (and pathetic) defense?  Politicians make me crazy.  I plea "not guilty by reason of insanity."

Mea culpa.

  1. okay, because I'd moved on I had to go back and reread.....

maybe I'm twisted, or maybe I've spent too manyyears married to a Sub Sailor, but I don't get it.

"But it would have been much less embarrassing than the hemming and hawing that gushed from the Great Orator's pie-hole."

what's wrong with this sentence that it incited such comments? Should you have said "yap, trap, face, mouth"???

Why focus on one word? I see it as a red herring. I can't defend my stance against your argument so I'll attack your choice of words.

Gee, I thought Priests were People too.

(food for thought, must a blog be pastoral?)

  2. I home school my children, and I'm always trying to get them to use descriptive, picture words when writing. To me "pie hole" is very descriptive. :) I guess since that word is used at times in my family I wasn't offended by it. MightyMom is right, priests are people too.

You are right. However, I recommend as a mere strategy maintaining as much equanimity as possible in word choice if for no other reason than to avoid giving someone with no case something to latch on to who will beat it into the ground, leaving the topic at hand in limbo. Remember that in things like Alisnky's Rules for Radicals and the Delphi Technique are systems of camouflaged predation. That is, kicking you until you react badly, and then guilt-tripping you and cashing in on audience sympathy for the reaction. A passage I often keep repeating to myself is Ex. 14: 14--"The Lord himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still."

  5. Scott, Dominicans are very bad at keeping silent. But I get your point all too well.

My disdain for B.O. is not for the man...I don't know the man. My disdain is for his policies, for what he represents. In my mind, he represents the absolute worst instincts of our entitlement culture.

Well, then, you are permanently insane. You constantly say things like that.

Thank God for the priest with the more temperate nature. Help us all.

    WHAT is his blog address?
