Your tax dollars at work, folks! Read the transcript and then contact NPR and let them know what you think.
You might also consider contacting your Senators and Congressman to suggest that there are better ways to spend your taxes than paying some smug lefty to offend the Pope on public radio.

At the end of the show, the panelists were asked to predict the next high profile resignation (following the Goldman Sachs guy). Charlie piece made this supposedly humorous prediction: "Actually, Peter, Jesus left an angry epistle at the Vatican saying I'm resigning as Savior and going back to carpentry. That Santorum guy can speak for himself."
ReplyDeleteThese turkeys aren't even witty. Their humor is at about a second-grade level.
ReplyDeleteOf course, humor doesn't work anyway unless it's based on truth.
I fired off a comment to both the show and to my local station. I hope they hear the words in the spirit intended.
ReplyDeleteHere is the comment I sent to the NPR ombudsman:
ReplyDeleteOn a recent episode of "Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me!," host Peter Sagal referred to Pope Benedict XVI as “another famous gay icon.” The Pope is a religious celibate who has given up the active sexual dimension of his life in accord with his religious beliefs; thus to suggest that because a designer has been commissioned to create a cologne or perfume for his use is tantamount to being a “gay icon” is a gratuitous remark even by the most tolerant of comedic or free speech standards. It is difficult to imagine that Mr. Sagal would, under similar circumstances, make a joke calling the Dalai Lama, or the Archbishop of Canterbury, or a Chief Rabbi, or an Ayatollah a “gay icon.” Without correction or apology, one can only come to the conclusion that NPR and "Wait! Wait! Don't Tell Me!" supports anti-Catholic bigotry.
NPR Ombudsman: When we said the Pope was a “gay icon” we were not saying he was gay, we were saying he was an icon of gay people. In other words, “who you [Catholics] gonna believe, me or your lyin’ eyes.”
