Men...My own experience was along a different line. Mental and physical illness of a child. Early in my sons teen years he developed OCD and an eating disorder. This was my opportunity to learn humility in the face of his problems. At a certain point, as you note, if we are blessed by suffering, we turn from praying that "it" goes away to acceptance of God's will for us. Your story is a great example of redemptive suffering.
