And he focuses precisely on the strange and not-at-all logically required but well nigh universal move from postmodern skepticism and nihilism to political liberal collectivism.

Reminds me of the nihilist romantics I was in college with: the world is without God, without meaning and we are alone, so therefore we must love one another.
Never got that link.

Hicks more than suggests that PoMo was/is merely a means to an end, the end being socialism.

Hicks states and defends two hypotheses about postmodernism:

"Postmodernism is the first ruthlessly consistent statement of the consequences of rejecting reason, those consequences being necessary given the history of epistemology since Kant." (p. 81)

"Postmodernism is the academic far Left's epistemological strategy for responding to the crisis caused by the failures of socialism in theory and in practice." (p. 89)

Like so much liberalism, it's about taking a half-truth and elevating it into an encompassing ideology. And feeling good about yourself.

PS. I have to confess, Father, :) that although I have a lot of serious beefs with the RC Church, it's one of the pillars of Western civ (to which I am very attached) and it's therefore a relief to read a priest who is neither a fauxBaroque lace fan or worse, a member of the PeaceAndJustice cryptoEpiscopalian herd.OreamnosAmericanushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15602268350813211243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18842286.post-65377363426055264542011-11-11T10:48:21.428-06:002011-11-11T10:48:21.428-06:00I miss having you as a professor.I miss having you as a professor.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18268466966091770964noreply@blogger.com
