He always says no. I am tired. Yet, still, I wake up every morning. I can still, through his grace smile at the sunrise, the breeze, a cup of coffee, a child's smile. He won't let me rest, but he still brings me joy. Still, I wish for an end, but am grateful for the smiles.Billiamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15489132492383133253noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18842286.post-54296023567046433432012-08-12T22:30:59.060-05:002012-08-12T22:30:59.060-05:00That dog'll hunt!
Daniel Harrington, SJ, wr...That dog'll hunt!

Daniel Harrington, SJ, wrote "Why Do We Suffer?: A Scriptural Approach to the Human Condition". It's in my stack of books (unread) - there are a lot of books out there on this subject, so it must be popular. There is probably room for another one...

Re: the comments, you have to be careful when discussing this subject. Your writing is vivid and draws a reader/listener right in, so that first paragraph could have been a bit much for someone currently going through, or having recently gone through, a rough time. I know those first few sentences took me right back to 3 years ago, when nearly those same words ("Enough!...)escaped my lips, not realizing it was a prayer, and at the moment of utter surrender the Lord was there: Palpably and quite unexpectedly there - present at my side. So this "old" homily would have, three years ago, been WAY too much for my then fragile emotional state (not necessarily a bad thing, but would have been very painful at the time). The penultimate paragraph was the most powerful for me - looking back, with the knowledge I now have, I can see the truth in it. But right in the middle of serious crisis? No, I wouldn't have been able to process that as a hopeful message, nor (without help) would I have been able to see that therein lay the "answer": the way through.

Thanks for re-posting this. It's good to look back and see the journey, the path taken, difficult though it may have been - I wouldn't be the same without traveling through the darkness and despair.Shellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05485793986602894527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18842286.post-52898105734448066482012-08-12T14:26:12.311-05:002012-08-12T14:26:12.311-05:00MFT, to be honest. . .the Redneck Squirrels don...MFT, to be honest. . .the Redneck Squirrels don't know I sneaked out to post. . .so, ssshhhh.

I believe that Divine Providence is one of those Christian topics that confuse modern Americans terribly. Issues like suffering are so difficult for us b/c we've been indoctrinated to believe that We Deserve Only Good Things. IOW, we've been indoctrinated to ignore reality.Fr.
