  4. I have come to the sad conclusion that the problem is not Obama but the fact that the American electorate put him where he is. He is a powerful symptom of the cultural and demographic shifts from which I am doubtful we can recover. Although his position has given him the power to make things worse, and he certainly has, the real rot is that he represented something desirable for a majority of the voters in 2008. If there is truth in the saying that we get the leadership we deserve, then Charlie Brown is right, and the enemy is us. No change of regime will really address that.

    And a fundamental part of that problem --which both liberal and conservative Catholics are terrified of talking about--is that if he were not (half) Black, he would never have arrived where he is.
